Maykel Blanco y su Salsa Mayor is one of the most vibrant Cuban timba and salsa groups on the current scene. Maykel Blanco, born in Havana in 1982, founded the orchestra in 2004 when he took over as director of the group Salsa Mayor, and since then has served as composer, conductor, arranger, and pianist. The band, composed of 14 musicians with solid academic training, has earned the nickname "Cuba’s musical machine" for its powerful percussion section and overwhelming energy on stage. With albums such as 'Recoge y vete' (2006), 'Anda y pégate' (2009), and 'Que tiene que te mueve' (2019), and with over 200,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, Salsa Mayor is a must-see at salsa festivals and timba nights around the world.
